Abstract (EN)

Primary aim of this study is to reveal features of Ottoman perception and its formation causes by viewing informations in history books (annals, chronicles) are as primary sources of Turkish states that had contacted with Ottomans between 1300-1600. There are extremely important informations in mentioned sources about Ottomans. Ottoman perception in Anatolian Principalities period's sources is deprecating but a more complex table emerges in other Turkish states' sources. There are negative expressions about Ottomans in history books of Sami and Yazdi who were Timurid period's historians but it is difficult to run across same expressions in other history books written later periods. It seems that in Mamluk period's sources possitive and respectful expressions were used about Ottoman padishahes before Yavuz. However this situation changed after Ottomans entered Egypt and ended Mamluks, for instance Ibn Iyas's history book (Bada'i' al-Zuhur) has extremely negative expressions about Yavuz. (Before 1600) In sources of The Safavid State that was an other Turkish state, negative expressions were barely used about Ottomans. These all informations seem that it is not possible to generalize whether the Ottoman perception is always possitive or negative. Keywords: Perception, Perspective, Principalities (Beyliks), Mamluk, Ottoman, Safavid, Timur, Yavuz.
