Abstract (EN)

Smartphones have become an indispensable part of our lives together with the development of technology. However, this situation causes experiencing of some problems today. One of these problems is the fear of being without a smart phone (nomophobia). As a result of the literature review, it was seen that the studies on nomophobia focused on young age groups and students, and the studies on business life and accommodation businesses were insufficient. In this regard, the main purpose of the study is to determine the effect of nomophobia of individuals working in accommodation businesses on their engagement to work. The method of sampling was not used in the study, but the whole population was tried to be reached. The collected data were obtained from the staff of the accommodation enterprises with tourism management certificate operating in Eskişehir, which agreed to participate in the study, between the dates of January 5, 2020 - January 4, 2021. Questionnaires were applied to 329 people in total, but it was determined that 13 of these questionnaires were filled incompletely and incorrectly, and 316 of them were included in the analysis. "t-test", "one factor analysis of variance (Anova) analysis", "Tukey (HSD) test", "Correlation" and "Regression" analyzes were applied to the data obtained in the study. As a result of the analyzes applied, it was determined that there was a moderate relationship between nomophobia and work engagement. Regression analysis revealed that nomophobia has an effect on work engagement. Considering the future effect of nomophobia in the tourism sector, where the employment of women and youth is intense, tourism sector employees should be trained on nomophobia and other mobile addictions.
