Digital star standardization proposal in hospitality industry

The most common standards used in tourism businesses today are; ISO 9001, ISO 10002, HACCP, ISO 22000, LEED, Eco-Label, ISO 14001, Green Star, Green Globe, Blue and White Flag standards. These standards or certificates are those generally given in the areas of health compliance, quality and environmental awareness. As a result of the observations made in the sector and the literature review, no certificate or a standardization program prepared in the field of technology has been encountered in tourism enterprises. For this reason, Digital Star Standardization was proposed in this study in order to contribute to both the application and the literature. Interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used as the data collection technique. The sample of the research consists of 4-5 star chain hotel businesses operating in Hilton Head Island, USA, South Carolina. There are 39 questions in the interview form applied. The meeting was held with a total of 21 middle and senior managers. The results of the research were analyzed by descriptive and content analysis methods. The sample contains data from 4 different hotel groups. In the light of these data, it is seen that hotel businesses operating in Hilton Head Island give importance to environmental themed standardization. On the other hand, it can be said that businesses are shy about technological products / services that do not appeal to customer profiles.
