The problem of workforce training in ready-made clothes sector: the example of Balgat

In this study, the problems being faced by the ready-made clothes sector and the problems related to qualified workforce are researched as well as the structural features of the sector through the questionnaire administered to the owners of ready-made clothes companies. In addition to the basic structural features of the sector and the related problems, the literature section of the research involves the studies carried out so far about qualified workforce training, which was found to be the most important problem as a result of this study, as well as the related laws, regulations and recommendations for the solution of this problem. Target population of the study is 50 ready-made clothes manufacturing companies located in Balgat district of Ankara. The questionnaire was prepared for being administered to responsible managers of the companies. Also, questionnaire responses are prepared in a way to directly reflect the problems of the companies. Since all the target population of the study could not be contacted, the study was carried out by means of sampling. Results of the questionnaire are shown in tables. As a result of the research study, it was found that: 1. As well as all other sectors, it is necessary to develop well-educated, expert individuals in the ready-made clothes sector to be able to accommodate to the rapidly developing technology; to be able to attain the level of a well-educated society that consists of qualified people as is put forth by the developed countries as an indicator of development; to be able to attain the objective of being a productive society with a developed manufacturing industry; to be able to obtain a place in the international markets, where competition between the companies are quite intense in the global world and to be able to compete with them. 2. When the latest regulations by the state related to qualified workforce are considered, the research study is important with regards its literature survey written in a way to contribute to the solution of the problem. The needs of the sector completely overlaps with the recommendations for solution put forward by the related regulation, which reiterates the significance of the findings of this research study. This research study also includes recommendations of the researcher based on the problems found out as a result of the study itself.
