Abstract (EN)
Aim: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability of various morphometric measurements in the head and neck region on CBCT images in gender determination. Material and Method: In our study, length and area measurements of foramen magnum, mastoid process, atlas vertebra, mandibular 1.molar tooth were made on the CBCT images of 200 men and 200 women whose ages were 18 years and over. The measurement results were evaluated statistically with DIFA. Results: As a result of the discriminant function analysis made with foramen magnum measurements (MAPU, MALU, MACU, FOMA) the gender dicrimination ratio was achieved with 71.8%. As a result of the discriminant function analysis made with mastoid process measurements (MUR, MUL, MAPAM, MALAN), the gender dicrimination ratio was achieved with 88.2%. As a result of the discriminant function analysis made with atlas vertebra measurements (APAM, ATM, FAR, FAL, APAF, ACU, AFCU, ADA, AFA), the gender dicrimination ratio was achieved with 91.5%. As a result of the discriminant function analysis made with maxillary canin measurements (KAB, KABUL, KAMED), the gender dicrimination ratio was achieved with 85.5%. As a result of the discriminant function analysis made with mandibular first molar measurements (MOC, MOLA), the gender dicrimination ratio was achieved with 78.2%. Conclusion: It has been concluded that teeth in our study can be used to determine gender as much as skeletal structures. In addition, spatial and volumetric measurements made with radiological methods will enable the teeth to be used at higher rates in their identification studies. Key Words: Sex determination process, human ıdentification, cone beam computed tomography.
