Vitamin B12, folate and vitamin B6 are cofactors of homocysteine metabolism. The purpose of this study is to identify the levels of homocysteine, vitamin B12, folate and vitamin B6 in child patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) and to determine the relationship of homocysteine and these cofactors between children and their mothers.The average ages of 50 children with congenital heart disease and their mothers are respectively 3,6 months and 30,4 years. In control group the average ages of 50 children and their mothers are 4,4 months and 29,1 years, respectively.Homocysteine levels from the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 12,1±2,76 mmol/L and 7,21±2,40 mmol/L, respectively. Homocysteine levels from the case group with congenital heart disease were significantly higher than group (P<0,05). Vitamin B12 levels from the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 375,1±236,3 pg/mL and 474,3 ± 270,7, respectively. Vitamin B12 levels from the study group with congenital heart disease were significantly lower than control group (P<0,05). Folate levels from the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 13,2±4,55 ng/mL and 12,5±4,21 ng/mL, respectively. There was no significance in folate levels between study group and control group (P>0,05). Vitamin B6 levels from the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 12,02±3,75 ng/mL and 10,42±3,64 ng/mL, respectively. There was no significance in vitamin B6 levels between study group and control group (P>0,05).Homocysteine levels from the mothers of study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 14,9±2,35 mmol/L and 12,4±3,04 mmol/L, respectively. Homocysteine levels from the study group with congenital heart disease were significantly higher than control group (P<0,05). Vitamin B12 levels from the mothers of the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 234,8±91,6 pg/mL and 299,5±146,1 pg/mL, respectively. Vitamin B12 levels from the mothers of the study group with congenital heart disease were significantly lower when compared with control group (P<0,05). Folate levels from the mothers of the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 5,88 ± 3,46 ng/mL and 7,96 ± 3,87 ng/mL, respectively . Folate levels from the mothers of the study group with congenital heart disease were significantly lower than our control group (P<0,05). Vitamin B6 levels from the mothers of the study group with congenital heart disease and control group were 11,1±3,41 ng/mL and 11,4±3,13 ng/mL, respectively. There was no significance in vitamin B6 levels between study group and control group (P>0,05).As a result, levels of homocysteine were higher and vitamin B12 and folate levels were lower in mothers of children with congenital heart disease. İt was thought maternal hyperhomocysteinemia might an increased risk in the children with congenital heart disease.Key words: Homocysteine, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin B6, congenital heart disease
