Research of the consultant physicians reaching time to the patients admitted to the emergency department

Objective: The density at the emergency departments, can generete an increase on the mortality, dispatching, possibility of medical mistakes and working unwillingness through employees. İt is important that the arrival time of the consultant physician among the causes of the long waiting time in emergency department. In this study; it is intended, prospectively researche the factors that affect consultant physicians reaching time to the patient in the emercency department. Materials and Methods: The patients who applied to adult emergency department in Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine and required consultation for any reason between 01.08.2012 - 31.12.2012 were included to our study. The patients data were recorded to prepared study forms and statistically evaluated. Results: Between the dates of 01.08.2012 - 31.12.2012, 430 patients who applied to adult emergency department and required consultation with any reason were included in the study. İt is determined that the cardiology was the most commonly requested consultation (143 patients, 33.2%) and the median value of all departments consultation response time was 40 minute (min: 3 minutes, max: 705 min). İt is detected that application time period, application pattern, general condition, urgency, age, re-consultation request, are effective on waiting times of patients in the emergency department. A significantly positive correlation between, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, general surgery, orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery consultant physicians arrival time to the emergency department and the waiting time of patients in the emergency department, was found. Conclusion: İt is determined that in internal medicine,urgency and in surgical medicine, admission time of patients are the most important factors that affect the arrival times of consultant physicians.
