Containerized cargo transportation and Marmara Region projection

The international competition, getting more intensive each day through marking theworld economy, will probably be mentioned as the most distinctive feature of thecentury. Having its beginning in early 1960s, container transportation have started to takethe place of traditional ways of transportation in many areas, and considering its featuresit is drawing attention by having reached an important level in the internationalcompetition of marine transportation. The reason of this success of containerisation andcontainer transportation is the stanstandardization of cargo transportation and it isbecause of this reason that the worldwide industrial production has increased in a parallelway. Accordingly containerisation has increased the demand to transportation and thisdemand has also speed up the tendecy to containerisation. The high efficiency and profitratio, that has become more strongly marked by the joining of speed factor to the factorsof ship sizes and capasities, displays the place of containers in marine transportation.This thesis has two main purposes. First; to consider the economic structure ofcontainerized cargo transportation and to analyse its status in Turkey and throughout theworld.Second; to draw attention to the growth potential of containerisation in Marmararegion and in this context, to create projection related to years 2007-2010 througheconometrical model.
