Abstract (EN)

In this research, initially the structural changes and developments that the double bass has undergone until today were examined. During the research, the history of viol and violin families and the characteristics of the instruments were observed, and the differences between the instruments of two families were revealed. In a part of study, the entry of the double bass to the orchestra, the first solo works, the first double bass soloists and the first double bass methods were examined. One of the study goals is to examine the contribution and importance of Serge Koussevitzky, one of the greatest virtuosos and composers in the history of a double bass. The life story of Koussevitzky was discussed, and the development of the art of double bass playing in Russia was mentioned. The Russian double bassist was one of the best solo bass artists of his time. He gave concerts not only in Russia, but also in Europe. He was appreciated everywhere.
