Quality and satisfaction assessment in housing mobility: Sarigol Housing Redevelopement Site

One of the most crucial indicator of a high quality life is "housing quality". User's satisfaction of their own house causes an increase in their quality of life and enables them to achieve happiness. The housing mobility is occured in order for living a high quality house. Occasionally, this mobility is realized involuntarily. Urban transformation or "urban morphose" projects are most observed as urban redevelopment projects in Turkey. During this process people's living places are being demolished; some of them are forced to live in a residential area where they do not feel any belonging or they are being displaced. Not only physical changes but also physical changes in the neighborhood texture can be observed. This sudden and deep-rooted physical and demographic changes during the urban transformation process, brings many problems with. This process can be considered as a milestone in their lifes of residents, who are affected positively or negatively in the context of quality of life and housing satisfaction. The main problem of this thesis is the changing housing quality-satisfaction perception of the residents during urban transformation process. In the thesis, the field study was presented after the concepts of quality, satisfaction, housing mobility and urban transformation were discussed in the literature review. These concepts have been moved to an empirical area research on residents of the urban transformation area in İstanbul. The quality and satisfaction evaluation for different groups who show different housing mobility types in the selected study field, namely, Sarigol Housing Redevelopment Site was done. The field research was conducted through using mixed method research and within two phase: qualitative and quantitative, because of the interdisciplinary structure of the study. The data coming from the field study were tried to be explained through comparing with the literature review. In this process, it has been discussed how the levels of housing satisfaction of the people are shaped on what criteria and how they are to be evaluated after they are revealed.
