ANALYSIS OF ENERGY 10 PROGRAM AS A TOOL FOR IMPROVINGENERGY PERFORMANCE AT THE DESIGN PHASE OF LOW ENERGYRESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS(M.Sc. Thesis)Merve BEDİRGAZİ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYNovember 2006ABSTRACTAs a matter of fact, when sectoral distribution of energy consumption inindustrialized countries is concerned, building sector appears to be the thirdafter industry and transportation sectors; so the importance of providingenergy efficiency in residential sector, which accounts for approximately 25% ofthe total energy used, should be emphasized. In this study, residential design isanalyzed in terms of energy efficiency. As zero energy developments areadmitted as the latest point to be achieved in the world, the situation in Turkeyis assessed in this context.Energy conscious building design is claimed to be conducted through a processwhich initiates with providing energy efficiency strategies at predesign phaseand continuing with calculations afterwards. These strategies are proposed to bedefined and evaluated by means of simulation tools like Energy-10.As case study, an examplary house from `Doktorlar Sitesi, Ankara? is modelledthrough the simulation program `Energy-10 v 1.8?. Conclusions will be drawnin two ways; in terms of evaluating the energy efficiency rate that would beachieved by applying energy efficiency strategies at predesign stage andevaluating Energy 10 program as a tool for improving energy efficiency at thepredesign stage of low energy residential buildings.Science code : 804.1.040Keywords : Energy efficiency, housing developments, Energy-10Number of pages: 202Advisor : Prof. Dr. Gönül UTKUTUĞ
