A comparative analysis of the built environmental designs in Konya city in the context of child friendly city criteria

Cities are the integrated form of a complex community that includes different groups in its structure. Perhaps, children who has the most disadvantaged among these groups, are trying to maintain their lives in cities. With the globalization of the world and spreading technology, while many children have good opportunities, there are also quite a lot of children, who do not have good opportunities. For children whose living spaces are limited and cannot adequately benefit from their rights, rights given to children in the city should be increased via both local and international programs and projects. Every group living in the city should have equal rights and suitable spaces should be designed for chilren's needs. Every child deserves to grow up in a peaceful, safe, clean and happy environment. This study was carried out to examine whether the built environments in the city of Konya offer child-friendly spaces or not. Within the scope of the study, ten different settlements selected from Konya were examined in order to measure the quality of children's living spaces in the context of child-friendly city criteria. Primarilly, in accordance with the stated purpose, the theoretical background on the subject has been revealed by making a literature review for the creation of child-friendly environments in cities. Then, spatial analyzes were made in the selected sample areas. In addition, a survey was conducted with parents and children living in these settlements. When the results obtained within the scope of field research are examined, it has been observed that ten different settlements selected in Konya offer different features in terms of child-friendly city criteria and in general, no settlement completely can offer child-friendly spaces.
