Anatolian seljuk period column and colonette capitals in Konya and central districts of Konya (Karatay, Meram and Selcuklu)

Konya, having served as capital of the Anatolian Seljuk Empire, has an accumulation of historical background from the artistic point of view. The column and colonette capitals used in the buildings of this city consist of one of the architectural plastic elements of the structures. The column and colonette capitals, used as decorative components in such details as portal and mihrab apart from being used as column carriers, have been a subject not researched in detail. These architectural plastic elements display quite different features before and after the architecture of the Anatolian Seljuk period. The primary subject of our thesis is to demonstrate is considered to be diverse in cultural and artistic activities. the shape and ornament. A regional confinement is taken into account and only the structures in central town provinces of the capital Konya (Karatay, Meram ve Selcuklu) are included. The column and colonette capitals used in this period, being influenced by the shifting sense of art and passage of time, are examined in this study. Through revealing the effect of ancient times, Armenian-Georgian Architecture, Early Islamic Art and Central Asian Turkish Architecture on the structures of this period and what types of characteristics were transformed into Ottoman period, the column and colonette capitals are investigated in detail. In accordance with this purpose, in this typological study, the significance of these column and colonette capitals is displayed in terms of their role on the structure and decoration.
