Triple pelvic osteotomy practices in dogs

-51- SUMMARY In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of TPO application on the structure of joints and clinical rinding of the patient. The material of this study was seven cross-breed dogs in different sexes (6 female and 1 male) and weight (13.42 ± 2.29 kg) which were diagnosed hip dysplasia after clinic and radiologic examinations. It was decided right TPO in 5 and left TPO in 2 dogs between dogs with 5 unilateral and 2 bilateral dysplasia. The dogs were anaesthetised with 2mg/kg xylazine HCI (Alfazyne, Ege- Vet®) and 1 lmg/kg ketamine HCI (Alfamine, Ege-vet®) combination, following the administration of atropine sulphate (Atropin, Vetaş®) for the operations. After the surgical area was prepared according to routine techniques, the ostetomy of the os pubis, os ischii and os ilium was performed respectively and 20° TPO plate was applied qn os ilium the dogs that were given antibiotic for a week postoperatively were examined clinically and radiologically in the first day and clinically, radiologically and computed tomographically in the second and sixth weeks. Although the dogs could stand on the postoperative first day, walking problems were seen in the next stages. Except from one, walking problems disappeared in all dogs within two weeks. The Norberg angles which was 99.14 ± 0.59( 96-100) preoperative^ in seven hip joints decided to be performed TPO was determined as 120.71 ± 3.85 (105-130) at the second week and 124.29±2.97(1 10-130) at the sixth week. Statistically significant difference (P<0,01) was observed in Norberg angles between the preoperative and postoperative measures. A recovery on the osteotomy line of os ischii was determined at the sixth week. A degenerative disorders had not been determined at the pelvis at any time postoperative. Acetabular coverage rates were %43,74± 2,30 (31,93-50) preoperative 46,18+1,39% (41,56--52- 52,41) at the postoperative 2nd week and 47,69 ± 1,04% (44,05-51,79) at the postoperative 6th weeks. As a result, it was decided that successful results may have been taken in operative treatment of canine hip dysplasia with TPO before degenerative disorders had began within the pelvic joints.
