Özet (EN)

Global temperature rise has become one of the most significant environmental issues of the 2000s, with its environmental impacts, intensity, and potential threats to civilization. The possibility of this problem endangering human existence and development has led many countries to recognize climate change as an existential threat and address it as a security issue. This study aims to examine how climate change is addressed in the context of security through the concept of securitization proposed by the Copenhagen School. The study analyzes the global situation using historical-political context and International Relations theories, alongside relevant speeches, documents, and media productions. By drawing parallels between traditional and expanded security perspectives, the study will discuss the reasons and conditions that have led the international community to securitize climate change, the rhetoric used, and the outcomes of these approaches. Additionally, the study aims to identify the appropriate rationality between preventive and cooperative policies and urgent, security-based measures. This analysis contributes to finding the most effective and sustainable solutions to combat climate change.
