Symbolism in Korean Culture and its effects on women's clothing in the Joseon period

Korean culture has recently started to attract people's attention with the influence of the concept of popular culture. The main objective of this study; It includes the study of Korean culture, which has been overshadowed by Japanese and Chinese culture, and research with a focus on symbolism through the women's clothing of the Joseon Period. This thesis; Considering the connection between the concepts of culture and symbolism, and the continuing importance of these concepts today, it emphasizes the importance of being fed from traditional culture and how these affect clothing from past to present. In the first part, in general terms; The concept of culture and related elements of the concept of culture such as civilization, society, communication, image, belief, symbolism, mythology, clothing are mentioned. The meanings of these cultural-related elements and their relations with each other are described in detail. In the second part, the understanding of culture, art and clothing of the Kingdoms that existed in the Peninsula throughout the history and historical process of the Korean Peninsula is emphasized. Then, the cultural perception of the Korean society was mentioned in general terms. Another topic covered in this chapter is symbolism in Korean culture. Symbols used in Korean culture and their meanings; animal, plant, nature, color, national, mythological studied under the title. In the third chapter, women's clothing in Korean culture and its relationship with symbolism are explained. Clothing materials; Top clothing, bottom clothing, underwear, outerwear, ceremonial, hairstyles, accessories and headwears were analyzed and symbolic analyzes were made. In the fourth and last part, the details of the original designs created based on the information obtained in line with all the researches are given.
