Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY In most part of the world, patriarchal system enables men to have power, money and authority. Patriarchal system is dominant in cinema industry as well. Male dominance structures production, narrative and narrative codes. Patriarchal cinema system represents women in order to satisfy male fantasies. Female characters and images are products of male fear and fantasy. Feminist critics claim that patriarchal cinema position women as object of the look. In patriarchal cinema system men have the dominant active look and women are located as the object of the look. After the World War 2., women began to occupy dominant positions in economic and social life. Especially in 1960s many important changes and events occured in the world. Feminism, economic crisis and political liberalism affected the whole society. Men began to anxious about losing their dominance on women. We can see the reflections of this anxiety in patriarchal cinema. The movies of that era locate women between their career and their home. For example in these movies women who choose career become unhappy and others who devote themselves to their home become happy.147 Horror film is an excellent resource to examine that kind of social anxieties. A central motif in contemporary horror film is violence against women. Especially in 1960s women had control over their own sexuality. Feminism and liberated sexuality era evoked men's sexual anxieties about women's sexuality. The repression of women's sexuality is now destroyed. And in these years a sub-genre of horror film borns: Slasher films. In slasher films a murderer kills women, especially women who have random sexual relations. So liberated women sexuality is punished by patriarchal cinema. In horror film women's traditional victim positions tend to change in 1960s. That women are considered as "the other", non-male, we began to see female monsters intensively in and after 1960s. Witches, female vampires, aliens and other female monsters began to threaten male dominance. But at the end of the narrative these monsters are destroyed and male sexual fears are soothen.
