Examination in terms of sociocultural contributions on choir work: Malatya sample

Abstract (EN)

In this study, a research about choir structures in Malatya city center and its counties was made. Realizing that choir work has an important role on musical education is very crucial for musical education work. Considering Malatya sample, it was examined that how the activites in which people produce music harmonizingly together became a structure from the general to specific. The sample group consisted of 193 students who studied at Sumer, Gorgu, Cengiz Topel, Hanımın Ciftligi Fatih, Dumlupinar and Puturge Religious Vocational Secondary Schools in Malatya (Battalgazi, Yesilyurt, Puturge counties). 12 choir masters in certain city were applied a survey as part of the study. Survey's validness and reliability values is calculated. Cronbach Alpha parameters were determined Survey's Cronbach Alpha value is .66 so it seems like medium level. As a result of factor analysis value of KMO (.775), 193 personality sample size seems like sufficiency. Except some items, in general terms it is calculated that look like middle-level it is appereanced that the survey is sole factor. They were examined for that in which halls the choir concert activities were shown, which grades were choir members, and which kinds of choir activities were made. It was detected that most of the students associated the choir with concrete conceptions as a result of metaphor analysis. Students thought that choir work was useful for socializing. Nearly every student opinion about choir work's contributions to friendship and socializing was positive. Most of the students indicated that choir work provided cooperation among individuals. It was detected that students were happy as a choir member in choir activities. It was revealed that the students who lived in rural areas had less chance to follow cultural and art activities. It was noticed that many of the choir masters worked in Inonu University. The ones that organized choir activities were between 27-35 years old. Choir masters organized Turkish Folk Music choir and Children and Youth choir. It was seen that choir masters usually did choir work with monodies. And choir work with polyphonic songs were less than the ones with monodies. Most of the choir masters stated that they didn't think the choir work enough for sociocultural contributions. They remarked that concert halls had several deficiencies. Most of them told that the stage in the concert hall was not adequate. It was observed that mostly 10-15 and 15-20 year-old chorists were worked with. More than half of the choir masters stated that they didn't find basic musical education of the students who participated in choir work was sufficient.
