Comparison of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy and computed tomography (CT) angiography by based on coronary angiography

Todays, coronary artery disease is one of the most common and important health problems in the world. Early diagnosis of this disease is very important to treat before occurred severe myocardial damage. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) by which evaluate regional myocardial perfusion and computed tomography (CT) angiography by which evaluate coronary arteries are reliable and non-invasive methods in terms of coronary artery disease.In this study we aimed to compare myocardial perfusion scintigraphy and CT angiography by based on coronary angiography. A total of 60 cases were included in our study. 30 of these 60 cases were performed coronary angiography and MPS, other 30 cases were performed coronary angiography and CT angiography. Lesions were classified as mild, moderate and severe in these imaging methods and then MPS and CT angiography are compared with coronary angiography by using chi-square and Fisher?s exact test. MPS and CT angiography?s p values were found for left anterior descending artery (LAD) p:0, p:0,271; for circumflex artery (Cx) p:0,256, p:0,08 and for right coronary artery (RCA) p:0,033, p:0,271, respectively. Furthermore MPS and CT angiography?s sensitivity 81%, 87%; specificity 70%, 49%; accuracy 73%, 72%; positive predictive value 54%, 72% and negative predictive value 90%, 71% were calculated respectively. Coronary angiography results found more concordant with MPS for LAD and RCA lesions and more concordant with CT angiography for Cx lesions. It was also found that positive predictive value was significantly higher at MPS and negative predictive value was significantly higher at CT angiography.As a result, MPS and CT angiography were suggested as complementary techniques for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, not as alternatives to each other.Key words: Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, CT angiography, coronary angiography.
