Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out as a randomised controlled experimental study to determine the effect of music therapy, progressive muscle relaxation exercise, aromatherapy and aromatherapeutic hand massage on patient outcomes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass within the scope of Complementary and Alternative Therapies (CAM) Health Care Model. The study was conducted between January 2022 and February 2023 at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Izzet Baysal Training and Research Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. The study sample consisted of 30 patients in the CAM Health Care Model group and 30 patients in the control group. Patients in the CAM Health Care Model group received the applications they preferred preoperatively and on the first and second postoperative days. Standard preoperative and postoperative nursing care was applied to the control group. Data were collected by the researcher using face-to-face interview technique and patient follow-up. The data obtained were coded in a statistical programme and evaluated by number, percentage, mean, repeated measures, independent sample t test and correlation analysis. In the study, no statistically significant difference was found in terms of preparatory, facilitating, need factors and health experience history in the selection of CAM Health Care Model (p>0.05). There was a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure in the application group in the preoperative and postoperative days (p<0.05). There was a significant effect on vomiting in early postoperative complications. The mean sleep quality scores of the patients in the CAM Health Care Model group were significantly higher than the control group. The postoperative state anxiety scores and postoperative second day pain scores of the patients in the CAM Health Care Model group were significantly lower (p<0.05). As a result, it is recommended that the CAM Health Care Model be used by nurses in the perioperative process to increase anxiety, postoperative pain, sleep, complication management and satisfaction with nursing care in patients who will undergo surgical intervention.
