Abstract (TR)

The purpose of medical treatment in the caustic esophageal burns (CEB) is to decrease inflammatory reaction and to prevent stricture formation. Resveratrol have got antiinfiammatory and antifibrotic properties. The aim of the study was investigated the effects of resveratrol antiinfiammatory and suppressing stricture formation in experimental CEB.Fourty-two male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups as follows Control group, caustic group 4 and 28 group (esophageal burns were created), resveratrol 4 and 28 group (esophageal burns were created and resveratrol were given). CEB were produced by the method of Gehanno and Guedon as modified by Liu and Richardson, 25 % NaOH were used for burns. Animals were sacrificed on the 4th and 28th days for biochemical and histopathologic examination. Mean malondialdehyde and nitric oxide assays of the caustic groups were significantly higher than in the resveratrol groups (p<0,05). GSH assay on the resveratrol groups were significantly higher than in the caustic groups (p<0,05). Histologically, edema, inflammation and necrosis in resveratrol 4 group were significantly lower than in the caustic 4 groups (p<0,05). Submucosal and muscular collagen accumulation in the resveratrol 28 group were significantly lower than in the caustic 28 groups (p<0,05).We conclude that resveratrol decreased both the inflamatory reaction and the stricture formation. Further studies are necessery for potential therapeutic use of resveratrol in CEB.
