Kosovo Turkish and verb structures

Hitherto studies on Kosovo Turkish accentuated the phonetical issues, whereas morphological themes were dealt with in a limited range. Moreover, there is a great number of studies written on the words transmitted to Balkan languages from Turkish. Studies in this direction were written in Turkish and Balkan languages as well as German and English language. With this thesis we strived to present an overview of the sociolinguistic status of Kosovo Turkish language, the speaking groups and language contacts, as well as to create an opinion on the mechanism of this contact. This part of the thesis strived to shed light on the configuration of the Kosovo Turkish language. The other part of the thesis briefly described phonetic features, word structuring and noun inflection. Further, we dealt with the verbal system, to conclude with some findings related to the sentence knowledge. Some of the issues that became prominent in this thesis are analytic structures emerging in the verb inflection of Kosovo Turkish as a language of contact and its similarities to Indo-European morphosyntax structure. Through comparison with their equivalents in Albanian and Serbian language we tried to determine which language of contact they are copied from. Due to the fact that there are not any other studies on the issues raised in this thesis the information gathering was done through interviewing Kosovo Turks and Kosovars who speak Turkish for various reasons. In addition, academics and researchers working in the field of linguistics, sociolinguistics, history and history of culture were interviewed in order to obtain their opinions on the reasons, speaking environments and frequency of Turkish language speaking by non-Turks.
