Online models in teaching Turkish as a foreign language: Ankara University TÖMER case

Recently, Turkey and the Turkish began to attract interest around the world. Turkish series and films having a high audience all over the world, factors such as foreign learners for the submission of various opportunities in Turkey have increased the interest of our country and Turkish. This increasing interest has also led to developments in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. There are many Turkish courses that provide face-to-face education in our country. However, with the Covid-19 Pandemic, both private courses and Turkish teaching courses of universities decided to terminate face-to-face teaching and continue courses online. If we compare the online teaching of Turkish as a foreign language to the face-to-face teaching, it seems that it is very new, and a limited number of studies have been conducted on this issue. This situation constituted the starting point of our study. Based on this, it is aimed to examine the online teaching model made in Ankara University TÖMER, which is one of the most experienced institutions in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and to reveal the opinions of the teachers about this model. For this purpose, 24 trainers/lecturers from Ankara University TÖMER's Kadıköy and Taksim Branches were interviewed. One of the qualitative research designs, the case study was used in our study. The data were obtained through a semi-structured interview form consisting of 22 questions where open-ended answers can be given, and the findings were reached by subjecting them to content analysis. In our study, trainers/lecturers; stated that the training to be given on online education will provide them self-confidence, technological support should be provided by the institution in the online teaching process, and online teaching has positive and negative aspects. Writing skill is the most difficult skill to develop. Trainers /lecturers would like to continue if online lessons continue after the Pandemic. An interesting situation here is that teachers feel more comfortable in face-to-face classes, even though they want to continue teaching online. Considering the answers of the participants, it is seen that they generally stated that the lessons and course hours were intense and that the Yeni Hittit Set, which is used in online lessons, is not very suitable for online lessons. Participants are generally satisfied with the interface called Zoom used in online lessons.
