Artistic activities in village institutes

Village Institutes are the institutions which emerged from an outcome of experience gained on the field of education during Pre-Republican and Early Republican period. These institutions, which were founded at a time that was naturally under the influence of the social, cultural, military, and economic developments in Turkey and the world, are significant in terms of their impact on social changes and on reflections of these changes to modern day. In this study, primarily by analyzing the education policies carried out during Republican period, the process which had prepared Village Institutes has been assessed considering the applications put into effect in this field. The foundation of Village Institutes, the purpose, the philosophy of education, the education programmes, and the contributions of the founders to the development of education, culture and the Art in Turkey have been stated. The art activities carried out on Visual Arts, Theatre, Literature, Music and Folk Dance in Village Institutes have been assessed as well considering the place and significance of Art Education.
