The place of women in the novels of the village institute graduate authors

In this thesis, a total of 8 novels by Republican Literature writers, Village Institute graduates, and social realist writers Talip Apaydın, Fakir Baykurt, Kemal Bilbaşar and Ümit Kaftancıoğlu, were examined with qualitative data research methods, and an in-depth and comparative analysis and review was aimed from a gender perspective. And, another aim of this thesis is to ultimately investigate how the social changes and social conjuncture between 1945 and 1980 were reflected in village literature novels in terms of gender. In this thesis, the discourse analysis of 2 novels of these 4 authors examined was carried out in the context of gender, depending on the criteria specified in the methodology of this thesis. Although Village Institutes offer mixed education opportunities regarding gender equality during their existence, as will be seen in this thesis, it will be seen that these writers, who are graduates of the Village Institute, display an attitude that reflects gender inequality, as can be seen in their novels. Although all of the prominent writers of Village Institute graduates are men, this thesis, written multidisciplinaryly from a gender perspective, examines how female figures, images and representations are handled in the relevant novels of the writers mentioned in this thesis. In all of these village novels, the mentality of the patriarchal system based on gender inequality in rural areas will be encountered. Moreover, the use of masculine language and the prevalence of patriarchal literary style will be seen in their village novels. During the existence of the Village Institutes, it will be seen that the sociological and economic changes in the rural areas led to changes in the family and rural life of women in the period when the village novels were written, and that the place of women in these village novels led to changes in the family and rural life in the context of gender.
