Decreased fluid intake and/or increased fluid loss in various inflammatory and disease states result in developing fluid deficits and dehydration. The effect of dehydration on serum AFP concentrations is unknown. In this study, it was aimed to reveal the effect of dehydration on serum concentrations of some acute phase proteins. The animal material of the study consisted of 20 healthy, 6-8 months old sheep with both sexes. The sheeps were randomly divided into 4 equal groups (n = 5) and followed for 7 days. Research groups: •Systemic inflamation (SISY): A single dose of 5 ml FCA was administered intramuscularly into right M. serratus cervicis. Feed and drinking water were provided as ad libitum through 7 days. •Dehydration (DEH): A single dose of 5 ml plasebo 0.9% NaCl was administered intramuscularly into right M. serratus cervicis and consecutive 5 days water deprivation was made with ad libitum feed. •Systemic inflamation+ Dehydration (SISY+DEH): A single dose of 5 ml FCA was administered intramuscularly into right M. serratus cervicis and dehydration was created by water deprivation for consecutive 5 days. In this process feed was provided as ad libitum. •Control (KON): A single dose of 5 ml plasebo 0.9% NaCl was administered intramuscularly into right M. serratus cervicis. Feed and drinking water were provided as ad libitum. Blood samples were collected on days 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 while feed consumption, body weights and clinical examinations were performed daily during the study. Significant increases were found in serum Hp, SAA, Cp and plasma Fb concentrations in SISY and SISY + DEH groups. There was a significant increase in only serum Hp concentration in the DEH group. As a result; it is concluded that serum Hp concentration may be a useful biomarker in the diagnosis and monitoring of dehydration and that all data obtained can be used as the reference in future studies.
