Abstract (EN)

In this study, urbanization problems arising from rural to urban migration, effects of migration on migratory family members and changes in their economic and social lives were examined. The research was planned and conducted in order to determine the demographic, socio-economic characteristics of 402 families who migrated from rural areas in 21 districts in Tokat central district and their opinions on education, acquiring a profession, working and personal decisions of their children. In the study, chi-square and factor analysis methods were applied to the data obtained as a result of the survey study. According to the research findings; 46.8% of the participants were female and 53.2% were male. 54.2% of the families migrated to the city to find a job. 33.7% of girls have high school, 31.8% have primary and 24.1% have university education. 92.8% of the families want girls to have education. 80.3% of girls do not work. 68.9% of the families want girls to work, and 53.8% of them say that the reason is that girls meet their own needs. 19.82% of working girls are civil servants and 35% work because they have their profession. 59.20% of the families stated that the parents had an influence on the marriage decision of the girls. 14.7% of the girls are married and 50.3% of them are married by blind date. Gender characteristics of families; a significant relationship was found between the educational status, occupational groups, time to migrate from the village, life in the city, how much girls should be educated and their wishes to read, and the points that girls take into consideration when choosing their spouses. Factor analysis was conducted to measure the attitudes and behaviors of families towards girls. In the analysis, the number of factors with eigenvalues greater than 1 is 5 and these factors explain 63.633% of the total variance. In general, it has been concluded that families have positive attitudes towards the education, work and marriage of girls. Encouraging activities should be provided to increase the opportunities in education and employment of girls. Keywords: Migration, Village, City, Urbanization, Tokat Province, Family, Girl, Boy.
