The defense systems of ancient city Cremna

The Cremna is located in Hacıbağ District within the borders of Çamlık Village in Bucak District of Burdur Province. The city is one of the mountainous cities of the ancient Pisidia Region. Its location and defense structures are among the main factors in showing it among the cities that are difficult to conquer. In this study, Cremna's defense systems have been examined. Accordingly, the city walls, tower structures and bastions, gates and ancient roadways that form the defense of the city are explained under separate headings and discussed in detail in terms of their architectural and military features. In order to embody the defense of the city, the siege area and related structures built by the Roman Empire's military engineers in the west of the city in order to re-dominate the city after the invasion of the city by the bandit leader Lydius were also included in the study. Thus, the buildings built to protect the city were discussed and explained from a broad perspective. In addition, the rural settlements in the city's in khora and the buildings built for the security of the rural areas were examined and their strategic relations with the defense structures in the city center were determined. However, it has been understood that there is a strong relationship between the structures in the city and its territorium, and that there is a lively political, military and socio-economic life in the rural environment. In the studies on this subject, the historical events of the Pisidia Region and the city, as well as archaeological findings such as ceramics and metal finds in the city, as well as the architectural and military characteristics of the defense elements of the cities in Anatolia and Hellas were examined with the help of analogies and approximate dating of the defense structures of the city was made. Therefore, the strategic and plan features of the Cremna's defense systems were revealed, and it was concluded that the defense phenomenon of the city was used actively from the Hellenistic Period to the Roman and Byzantine periods and was protected despite structural changes.
