Abstract (EN)

While compressive strength of the concrete material is high, tensile strength is approximately 1/10 of this. The concrete will make a change in its geometry because of the load applied on it. Changing of the geometry in the part where tensile strength is applied on the concrete takes place as extension. Tensile strength shouldn?t be ignored in the constructional calculations especially in the projection stage of some constructions; because limitations of the cracks occuring by tensile effect can be possible by increasing the tensile strength. In this study, in order to compare the strength of concrete mixtures having different grain distribution prepared by mixtures of river sand and aggregate against compressing and tensile, variably aggregate granulometry and as a fine material river sand are used in the applied testing mixtures. In the concrete combinations prepared , % 22 - % 28 - %34 - % 40 - % 46 - % 48 - % 50 - % 52 - % 54 river sand is included in. In the 6th and 11th test combinations contemplated as witness concrete, aggregate was used as sand. In the 6th concrete combination % 50 aggregate, in the 11th concrete combination % 25 agregate, % 25 river sand are used. As the avarage amount of river sand in the mixture has changed, the average amount of the aggregate used between 4 - 12,5; 12,5 - 20 mm has changed too. It is observed that the test results changed by adding more river sand. At the end of the study, 28 day compressive strength first showed decline then afterwards rise depending on the average of the river sand. According to the increase in the average of the river sand there occured a parabolic relation in the splitting tensile strength. A mathematical relation between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength was tried to be established. At this study by mixing round and slippery river sand in aggregate there increase in the splitting tensile strength is observed both in compressive strength and tensile strength. Keywords: Crushed stone, River sand, Compressive strength, Splitting - tensile strength,Stress strain
