An investigation on the effect of red mud addition on brick production

In this study; the changes took place in brick properties by addition of red mud addition into the brick body have been investigated.Bricks have been manufactured by press method with the addition of 0 % (control series), 5 % and 10 % red mud into the Afyonkarahisar region brick clay. The brick samples have been fired in an electrically heated furnace at 3 different temperatures between 800-900 and 1000 ºC with 100 ºC intervals. Physical and mechanical tests were performed on the fired samples.Fired samples with 10% of red mud waste additive was determined on increase on the compressive strength at 1000 ºC compared to the red mud waste additive 0% and 5% sample. The colours of red mud samples was much more red, compared to pure ones.Key Words : Red Mud, Clay, Brick, Mechanical Properties, Na2CO3
