The relationship between body image and fear of negative evaluation anxiety in children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between body image and negative evaluation concerns of children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease. For this purpose, the research was designed as descriptive and correlational, and the survey method was used to collect the data. The sample of the study consists of 105 chronic kidney patients aged 12-18 years who are being treated in Istanbul Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital Pediatric Dialysis Service. In the collection of research data; 'Demographic Information Form', 'Body Perception Scale-BAI' and 'Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale' were used. Statistical program for social sciences SPSS-22 was used in the analysis of the data. Pearson correlation analysis was used to reveal the relationship between body image and fear of negative evaluation in children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease, and the strength and direction of the relationship between variables was revealed. At the same time, simple regression analysis was used to reveal the predictive levels between variables. The t-test and one- way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used in the intergroup comparison findings. When the research findings were examined, a positive and significant relationship was found between body image and fear of negative evaluation. As a result, it was found that as the level of body image increases in children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease, the level of fear of negative evaluation also increases.
