The effect of resveratrol administration on oxidant status in chronic diabetic rat gastric mucosal cells

Özet (EN)

In this work, effects of resveratrol use on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rat gastric tissues were investigated (Malondialdehyde (MDA), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) and antioxidants (glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD)) were studied. 26 adult male Wistar albino rats, weighing 250+20 gr, were used. Rats were divided into four groups as control , diabetes, resveratrol and (diabetes + resveratrol). When control was compared to diabetes and resveratrol, no significant difference between stomach MDA and AOPP levels were found (p>0.05). When resveratrol was compared to diabetes, stomach MDA levels were recognized significantly decreased (p<0.05). When the (diabetes + resveratrol) group was compared to control and resveratrol, stomach MDA levels were recognized significantly increased (p<0.05), and when compared to diabetes group, stomach MDA levels were decreased, and this was found statistically insignificant (p>0.05). When the (diabetes + resveratrol) group was compared to diabetes and resveratrol, stomach AOPP levels were recognized significantly decreased (p<0.05), and when compared to control , stomach AOPP levels were found to be decreased, and this was found statistically insignificant (p>0.05). When diabetes was compared to control , stomach GSH levels and SOD activities were found to be decreased significantly (p<0.05). When the (diabetes + resveratrol) group was compared to control , stomach GSH levels and SOD activities were recognized significantly decreased (p<0.05). In conclusion, it is observed that while free radicals increase in diabetic gastric tissue, antioxidant defence decreases. It can be said that resveratrol prevent lipid peroxidation exogenously, and it is partially successful to protect proteins from oxidative damage. It may also be said that it cannot prevent proteins from being affected by the redox changes. Key words: Resveratrol, diabetes, oxidant status.
