Abstract (EN)

Chronic diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Environmental and individual factors are of great importance in the adaptation of individuals with chronic diseases to the disease and the development of self-care management behaviors. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between disease adaptation and self-care management behaviors and environmental and individual factors in individuals with chronic diseases. The sample of the research consisted of 312 individuals with chronic diseases who were hospitalized in the inpatient services of Samsun Training and Research Hospital between December 2023 and March 2024. Data; It was collected using the "Sociodemographic Characteristics and Disease Information Form", "Adaptation to Chronic Diseases Scale" and "Self-Care Management in Chronic Diseases SCMP-G Survey". SPSS 29.0 package program was used to analyze the data. Descriptive statistics, independent groups t test, One-Way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation analysis and regression analiysis tests were used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, the total score average of the adaptation to chronic diseases scale was found to be 77.00±10.00, and the total score average of the Self-Care Management in Chronic Diseases scale was 107.52±12.51. A statistically significant difference was found between the patients' education level, childbearing status, employment and economic status, place of residence, body mass index and scale score averages (p<0.05). Additionally, as a result of the analyses, there was a difference between adaptation to chronic diseases and self-protection (r=0.146, p<0.05), physical adaptation and self-care in chronic diseases (r=0.135, p<0.05) and self-protection (r=0.135, p). <0.05) and between social adaptation and self-protection (r=0.130, p<0.05). Adaptation to chronic disease and self-care management of individuals with chronic diseases were found to be at a moderate level. It is recommended to improve individuals' adaptation to chronic disease and self-care management behaviors, to increase their educational status, to improve their economic opportunities, and to regulate environmental and individual factors accordingly.
