Abstract (EN)
In recent years, there is increasing attention in the possible role of vitamin D in the pathology of various diseases, including chronic liver disease. Although there are studies showing that D vitamin deficiency is in patients with CLD, data suggesting no significant association are also present. Our aim in this study was to investigate the level of vitamin D in CLD patients and to evaluate the prognostic effect of vitamin D in patients with cirrhosis and NAFLD. Vitamin D levels were investigated retrospectively in CLD patients whose 25(OH)D levels were measured and who were admitted to Akdeniz University Hospital Gastroenterology Clinic in an approximately 6 month duration. Vitamin D levels were classified as 4 groups. Vitamin D levels equal to 30 or greater were considered adequate, 20-30 were inadequate, 10-20 were deficient and values lower than 10 were severely deficient. The relationship between Child-Pugh and MELD scores in cirrhosis patients and the association between vitamin D levels and the stage expressed in ultrasonographic results in patients with NAFLD were analyzed. When 340 patients who met the inclusion criteria were grouped according to 25(OH)D levels, of the patients, 47 (13.8%) were found to be adequate, 113 (33.2%) were inadequate, 120 were deficient (35.3%) and 60 (17.6%) were severely deficient.
