Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Graduate Education Institute, Department of Internal Medicine Nursing. Doctoral Thesis. Istanbul This study was carried out to determine the effect of salt water application on cough, sputum, dyspnea management and quality of life in individuals with COPD diagnosis. The sample of the steal, which was performed with a pre-test-post-test randomized controlled experimental design, consisted of 83 COPD patients (37 experiments and 46 controls) who applied to the chest diseases outpatient clinic of a training and research hospital in Istanbul and met the inclusion criteria. In data collection; Patient Diagnosis Form, Modified Medical Research Board Dyspnea Scale (MMRC), COPD Evaluation Test (CAT), St. George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) was used. After collecting the data of both groups before the application, nebulizing with 0.9% isotonic NACL was taught to the patients in the experimental group. The patients were asked to nebulize with isotonic sodium chloride twice a day, in the morning and evening, for two months. No treatment was performed on control group patients. Cough, sputum and dyspnea symptoms of both groups were evaluated with the CAT and MMRC scale every 15 days for 2 months. As a result of the research; There was no statistically significant difference in the management of cough (p=0,092; p=0,663), sputum (p=0,092; p=1,000) and dyspnea (p=1,000;p=0,406) between the experimental group and control group patients. There was no statistically significant difference between the quality of life of the experimental and control group patients (p=0,279; p=0,319). In conclusion; It was determined that salt water application had no effect on cough, sputum, dyspnea management and quality of life in individuals with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
