Investigation of nose liquid and blood oxidative stress, antioxidative stress parameters and blood dna damage in children with chronic rhinosinuzitis

Rhinosinusitis (RS) allows the mapping of both the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses. You can also fall into subgroups acutely and chronically. Similar to chronic rhinosinusitis adults in children, two or more of the nose and paranasal sinuses with a longer duration of 6 weeks and 3 months, or one with a sensation of pain / pressure / fullness or cough, one of which is nasal obstruction or nasal discharge (anterior / posterior nasal discharge) It is defined as inflammation of the character with more symptoms. Although various factors such as changes in nasal secretions, mucociliary clearance, immunodeficiency, and anatomical abnormalities are thought to play a role, the exact pathogenesis is unclear. There are studies in the literature that examine changes in oxidative stress parameters in chronic rhinosinusitis in adults. In these studies, it has been shown that oxidative stress levels are elevated in the patient group but there is no supporting study in children. A total of 45 patients with childhood allergy, ear nose throat and chronic rhinosinusitis in our outpatient clinics and 32 healthy children as a control group were included in the study in this study between 01.09.2017 and 01.11.2018. Both groups were tested for blood C-Reactive Protein (CRP) to measure inflammation, total IgE for allergy screening, allergy skin test. Oxidative stress and antioxidative stress parameters were studied in nasal secretion and in vivo, and DNA damage was studied. it was aimed to investigate the distribution of oxidative stress parameters in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and to examine the effect of DNA damage on the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis at the same time. When we look at the results of our study, it was found that in chronic rhinosinusitis groups, oxidative stress and DNA damage increased and antioxidative capacity decreased in calm and nasal secretion according to the control groups. Total IGE, CRP, blood and nasal fluid oxidative stress and antioxidative stress parameters were not found to be statistically significant in the patient group. There was no statistically significant difference in the mean values. The allergy test positivity was significantly higher in the patient group but there was no statistically significant difference between the allergy skin test positive and negative patients in terms of the blood and nasal fluid oxidative stress and antioxidative stress parameters. Therefore, our study showed that allergy skin test positivity had no effect on oxidative stress parameters This results; oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis as well as in other childhood allergic diseases.
