Evaluation of the changes in the middle ear after endoscopic sinus surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis using wide band tympanometry and comparison with traditional tympanometry results

While there are many studies on changes in the middle ear and related symptoms in chronic rhinosinusitis patients, these are mostly studies based on symptom scoring and traditional 226 Hz tympanometry. Therefore, the middle ear changes in chronic rhinosinusitis patients and the improvement seen in the middle ear after endoscopic sinus surgery are examined by wide band tympanometry.While creating this study, we are based on many studies that demonstrate the superiority of measurements made with a wide band tympanometry device in showing changes in the middle ear compared to the 226Hz tympanogram. A total of 78 patients who are indicated for endoscopic sinus surgery with or without nasal polyps are measured with wide band tympanometry and traditional tympanometry in both ears one day before and after the operation. Likewise, the same tests are performed on 50 healthy patients selected as the control group. In addition, Lund Mackay and Meltzer polyp scores are performed on each patient using routine computed tomography before the operation. As a result, although the patients have a type A curve at a high rate of 89%, a significant absorbance difference is observed compared to the control group, especially in the absorbance values measured at ambient pressure between 226-4000 Hz.Afterwards,significant absorbance improvements are observed in patients at similar frequencies at ambient pressure.
