2. ABSTRACTThe Effects of topical drops used for cronic supurative otitis media to in ear: Anexperimental animal studyChronic otitis media is characterized by perforation of the ear drum, suppurative steramfrom the external ear and generally conductive hearing loss. Topical therapy is the first choice dueto have less side effect and its effectivity in the treatment acute attacks of the chronic suppurativeotitis media (CSOM). The most important side effect of the topical drops is ototoxicity. The aim ofthis study is to evaluate the effects of ear drops which contain ciprofloxacin, prednisolon andoxiconazole that used in the treatment of the CSOM on hearing levels, cochlear reserve andcochlear morphology. This study was perfomed on 98 normal guinapigs with normal hearing. Ciprofloxacinthree times in a day in first group (n=30), prednisolone three times in a day second group(n=30), oxiconazole twice in a day in third group (n=30) and sterile distiled water three timesin a day were applied intratimpanically. First three groups were divided into 3 subgroup 10subjects in each one. The appropriate drugs were delivered to first subgroup with equal dose ofeach kg in human (n=10), to second subgroup with 1/3 of equal dose (n=10) and to thirdsubgroup with 10 times of equal dose. BERA and DPOAE tests were performed beforedelivering of the drugs, 7 and 21 days after delivering the drugs in all subjects. After the testswhich performed on 7nd and 21nd days, two subjects from the each groups were decapitatedand examined with electron microscopy.BERA and DPOAE results of the group which used three drugs (ciprofloxacin, prednisolone and oxiconazole) applied with 10 times of equal dose were significantly differentfrom the control group and the other groups. While BERA and DPOAE results of the equaldose of oxiconazole were significantly different on 7 days after drug application, no significantdifference on 21 days after drug application. In electron microscopic examination, cellularatrophy and ciliary degeneration were the most clear in the group which applied 10 times ofequal dose of ciprofloxacin and well-proportioned with increase of the dose.In conclusion, we determined that if the equal dose in human of ciprofloxacin, prednisolone and oxiconazole were applied intratimpanically, no negative effect occur on thehearing levels and cochlear histology of the subjects.Key words: Ciprofloxacin, Prednisolon, Oxiconazole, Ototoxicity
