Documention of construction systems, materials and sustainability principles in the context of the conservation of rural architectural heritage: The case of Kastamonu Bey village

Rural architectural heritage has changed and deteriorated much more rapidly in conservation efforts; the values that constitute the documents of the past have disappeared / are disappearing. These values are within the scope of rural structures with the highest functionality, aesthetics and usefulness formed by the experience of past civilizations and societies; sustainable materials also include practical solutions such as providing the most gain with the least energy. However, these values, which are lost before they are documented, mean the loss of thousands of years of knowledge before it can be passed on to future generations. Bey village of Taşköprü district of Kastamonu province also shows an important and unique settlement feature with its local architectural identity, which includes the use of wood and stone materials together with practical solutions. Within the scope of the thesis; detailed typological analyzes were created by examining the structures that make up the traditional housing texture of Bey village, their positioning and orientation according to the land conditions, plan and facade features, construction techniques, building material selection, plan elements and space organization, together with on-site determinations made in the field work. In the context of the data obtained, sustainable design principles were determined, and the concepts of functionality, economy and accessibility were evaluated according to spatial function diagrams and local building material uses. The aim of this study is to protect the building and building elements that are documents with conceptual evaluations made on rural architectural productions, architectural features for building culture, materials and detail solutions, and to form a basis for scientific studies.
