Abstract (EN)

Today, preserving the unique cultural values of rural areas and unlocking their potential for a sustainable future emphasizes the importance of cultural mapping. Rural areas have a rich cultural heritage that includes traditions from the past, local arts, crafts and unique lifestyles. Cultural mapping involves the process of identifying, documenting and understanding these values, while at the same time aiming to protect and transfer this information to future generations. The integrated conservation of rural areas through cultural mapping not only documents historical traces, but also contributes to strengthening the identity of local communities, sustaining their traditional knowledge and skills, and contributing to their economic development. In this context, the conservation of rural areas through cultural mapping can be a strategy that encourages the participation of local people and enables innovative initiatives in areas such as sustainable tourism and local production. In this thesis, Gemiç village in Orhangazi district of Bursa province is analyzed within the scope of integrated conservation with the data obtained through cultural mapping. Gemiç rural settlement is a traditional settlement with a rich natural and cultural heritage located in Orhangazi district. This study was carried out with the aim of protecting Gemiç's unique nature, historical richness and cultural values. The research identified conservation problems in the settlement and suggested solutions. It addressed the deterioration caused by unplanned construction since the 1980s and emphasized the goal of preserving the traditional architecture of future buildings. It also suggested important steps such as revitalizing abandoned buildings and promoting tourism. The need to raise public awareness on conservation was emphasized and it was stated that these awareness raising activities would increase social support and participation.
