Review of the coiffeur employees in terms of the hygiene, blood-transmitted diseases and onychomycosis

Abstract (EN)
If employees work in unhygienic conditions as manicure-pedicure-epilation jobs in coiffeurs and beauty salons, they will transmit many diseases themselves and their customers with percutane-ous routes. In this study, we applied survey to evaulate transmission of blood transmitted diseases, onychomycosis, hygiene knowledge level of the employees. Also our aim was to examine HBV, HCV, HIV prevalance and onychomycosis infections, by the result of this research sterilization and disinfection training will be given to the workers and inadequacies will be removed.This study realised that in the 100 coiffeurs registered to the coiffeur?s room in Düzce province and its districts between the dates from June 2010 to November 2010. This workplaces by the 250 workers, 155 employees accepted to apply our study to examine their blood, also 126 employees applied our survey. In this study, as a control group, we took 65 blood samples of employees who were not in the risk group. HBsAg was found positive in the working group 5 (%3) people , in the control group 3 (%5) people. Anti-HBc IgG was found pozitive in the working group 18 (%12) people, in the control group 12 (%19) people. HCV, HIV and onychomycosis was not detected in working and control groups. Hepatitis B infection was higher than the control group and community workers in a coiffeur. This results in the control group selected at risk for HBV infection showed that staff in the other coiffeurs. According to the survey results most of the coiffeur and beauty salon employees were primary school educated and they took vocational trainings also largely they completed their education in apprenticeship training center. In the topics of hygiene, blood transmitted diseases and sterilization-disinfection, workers did not receive sufficient information, consequently it was found that they did not have sufficient information. It was thought that self-development seminars and courses with reproducible training opportunities at regular intervals must be presented by the authorities to the workers in this area.Key Words: hygiene, coiffeur, manicure-pedicure, blood transmitted infections, onychomycosis.
