Abstract (EN)

The developments in science and technology force the people to work more. The basic duty of the human being is to produce more and more consuming less and less energy. Therefore, machines must be run with high performance water - brake is a very basic measuring machine which is used to measure powers and economical. İn this study, by using various fluids having different viscosities and depending on the effects of the viscosity on the torque, a Water-brake is designed and constructed and its characteristics are investigated.IV In the first chapter of the study, importance of power measurement, power sources and the properties of various Water-brakes are described, in the second chapter, an information about power brakes their characteristics, "Prony brake" and "Type brake" given, in the third chapter information about hydraulic dynamometers, closed circuit hydraulic dynamometers, the similarities of water brakes to hydraulic couplings are defined. The general working principles of a water-brakes, "Junkers Türbülant water brake", "Froude-Krupp water brake" and "Schenk water brake" are presented, in the fourth chapter, the general working system of the water-brake and its theoretical torque equation are given, in the fifth chapter the experiments done, the parameters affecting the water-brake characteristics and the results of the experiments are presented, in the sixth chapter, the results from the experiments are compared to the theoretical ones by plotting the graphes showing the relations between the parameters. As a results, it was determined that the torque increased depending on the fluid amount the rotation speed and rotating wing area and lowered after a certain running time.
