Determination of the relationship between meteorological and hydrological drought in Küçük Menderes basin

Abstract (EN)

In this study, meteorological and hydrological drought analysis for Küçük Menderes Basin in Aegean Region, has carried out by using precipitation, temperature and streamflow data. The monthly cumulative precipitation (mm) and the monthly mean temperature data of the chosen 11 meteorological stations in and near the Küçük Menderes Basin have been used for the meteorological analysis. Missing data of the selected meteorological stations have been completed via regression analysis. The monthly cumulative streamflow (hm3) data of the 8 streamflow stations which have been chosen in such a way as to represent the whole basin, were used for the hydrological analysis. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), Drought Reconnaissance Index (DRI) have been calculated for the meteorological analysis; Streamflow Drought Index (SDI), Standardized Streamflow Index (SSFI) and Self Calibrated Palmer Hydrological Drought Index (scPHDI) have been calculated for the hydrological analysis and the time series of the calculated indeces have been shown in charts. The drought dates and the properties of those drought dates for each index have been determined. Finally the relationship between hydrological and meteorological indices has been presented by comparing all above determined results with each other.
