Evaluation of small and medium-sized enterprises in manufacturing employees performance: A study of Adana Organized Industrial Zone

The objective of this study is to determine frequently used methods for performance evaluation in manufacturing companies in Adana province. It is possible to enchance efficiency of employees by performance evaluation. Performance evaluation of "human resources management" of small and mid size companies in Adana province have come into prominence as for application part. Data is provided by face-to-face interviews with 30 companies located in Adana Organized Industrial Zone. Within this scope, in this research, performance evaluations of companies in human resources management are examined. As a result of this survey, it is seen that 33% of companies are cooperation limited, the rest 67% of companies are corporation. Human resources unit take part in 74% of companies, 70% of companies do export. In 76% of companies, subcontracted workers are employed. According to the research results, performance is evaluated once a year in 56% of companies. It is seen that most of the companies which provided data for this research, use graphic ratings, check-lists, critical incidents and sorting methods. It is concluded that performance evaluation is the best way to increase production (43%). The companies which have taken part in this research, received feedback at the rate of 71%. The personnel of 37% that give a very good performance is rewarded by premimum/bonuses. In 44% companies, it is defended that if the performance is not evaluated, companies can't be informed of knowledge and skills of their personnel. According to the results obtained, it is concluded that employer and personnel should be trained and every company should consider a suitable evaluation system for its own structure and service. And it is recommended that participation of employees should be encouraged and the results should be discussed frankly all together.
