Technology management and utilisation of advanced manufacturing technologies in small and medium size enterprises (SMEs): An application in small and medium size machine manufacturing industry

Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) are the important component of national economies with their dynamic conformation. Accomodation of this enterprises to international competition is a notable subject in the countries that SMEs have a big part of production. At the present day, accomodation of international competition requirements, satisfying consumer?s desire and expectations and saving the market share are be able to possible with following the technological innovations.The aim of this study is to determine utilization of advanced manufacturing technologies in enterprises, benefits that planning to gain from this technologies and acquisition levels. This study is performed in small and medium size machine manufacturing industry in Ankara-Ostim region. Face to face questionaire method is applied and SPSS is used for analysing the data. Assessing the data by reason of performed questionaires, frequency (f), mean (x) and standart deviation (Ss) are applied. Also, analysing of some data are tested with Chi-square and Wilcoxon tests.As conclusion it is determined that in small and medium size machine manufacturing industry, financial cost and lack of qualified staff are the serious factors. It is observed that the utilisation of advanced manufacturing technologies doesn?t have a big difference between the utilisation in five years before and now. It is interesting that most of the enterprises don?t have research and development (R&D) department and their relations with universities and technoparks are not sufficient.Key Words: SMEs, Technology management, Advancedmanufacturing technologies
