A method proposal in the context of cultural translation: The study of Acı Bilgi by Enis Batur as a translation phenomenon

This thesis titled "A Method Proposal in The Context of Cultural Translation: The Study of Acı Bilgi by Enis Batur as a Translation Phenomenon" is an effort to describe and make sense of the original work Acı Bilgi as a translation phenomenon. The work is not defined as a translated text, but it is closely related to the concept of translation, as it is an intercultural writing consisting of narratives on the journey. Due to this relationship, the research question of this study has emerged as how the original work, which appears as a contradictory example by not adapting to the traditional dichotomies of translation, will be established and how one could make sense of it. However, there is no standardized approach or previously structured study that provides an answer to this question. For this, in the qualitative study conducted with an interdisciplary perspective, two different conceptualizations of translation, traditional and cultural were applied in accordance with the requirements of the research object, a specific research design was conceived and applied to the study object. Within the framework of translation studies, the study carried out on the axis of traditional translation is the re-evaluation of the definitions and schemes of translation based on the source/target text dichotomy; the study carried out on the axis of cultural translation means the conceptualization and operationalization of a different translation design. In practice, there has been a descriptive (product-oriented, function-oriented and process-oriented) and theoretical/methodical effort. The relationship between the original work with the concept of translation has been highlighted in two different axes, by describing the existing translations and analyzing the observed functions of the translation processes. The study has achieved the aim of actualizing the relationship between original work and the concept of translation. The innovative and important aspect of this study is that it brings to the fore the concept of cultural translation and offers a method proposal for practice.
