The relationship between cultural values and career anchor of university students

This thesis study aims to investigate the relationship between cultural values and career anchor of university students. In this context, firstly the main concepts of career and the significance of career preference are explained and then the relationship between career and life cycle are discussed in details. Factors affecting career preferences of individuals and the related career preference theories are also analyzed.In the third section of the study, main concepts of culture as well as the importance of culture are defined. Approaches which classify values based on cultural dimensions are analyzed. İn this context; Hofstede's cultural dimensions and Rokeach's value classification are explained with details. Sample consists of 215 student who are studying at university. İn the fourth section of the study on application is given and the empirical results are discussed. The results of the study are analyzed by using SPSS statistical packet program. İn this analysis of the data; descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, Kolmogorov Smirnov test, Sperman Correlation analysis, Mann-Whitneyy U test and Kruskal Wallis test are used. The results of the study reveal a significant relationship between cultural values and career anchor of university students. Career anchor of university student which include security career anchor, independent career anchor, entrepreneurs career anchor are found to vary depending on their preferred sector. Cultural volues of university student which include low uncertainty culture are found to vary depending on their preferred sector. Furthermore, career anchor of university student which include lifestyle, pure challenge are found to vary depending on their gender.
