Cultural heritage identifies and forms the bridge between the past and the present of a society, also has all kinds of tangible and intangible assets that have cultural significance. Our historical cities are one of the most important centers that host cultural heritage and witness the development of societies. Our historical cities, which has a dynamic structure, have faced many threats that will damage the urban texture due to rapid and uncontrolled urban development, along with modernization and globalization. In planned new structures, development projects or improvement works which depending on the urban development, "Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment" studies are carried out as a tool for determination of the effects on the outstanding universal value of cultural heritage sites and the prevention/mitigation of impacts and the protection of cultural heritage sites. In this study, the potential role of the use of cultural heritage impact assessments, which is a new concept, as a tool that enables sustainable urban development, in the preservation of the outstanding universal value of cultural heritage and the benefit it provides to the development of the historical city are examined. Within the scope of the study, it was examined through the examples that UNESCO registered in the "World Heritage List in Danger" and kept it under monitoring, suggestions were made by analyzing the current and potential problems and deficiencies in the cultural heritage impact assessment studies, in local and country specific.
