Abstract (EN)

Cultural heritage encompasses the tangible and intangible aspects of our common human experience, including monuments, historical sites, artifacts, traditions, languages, rituals, music, literature and more. Modeling cultural heritage refers to the process of creating digital representations of cultural heritage sites, artifacts or intangible elements. These models aim to capture, preserve and transfer the cultural and historical aspects of the heritage to future generations by enabling the virtual discovery, analysis and dissemination of cultural information. To achieve this goal, 3-dimensional (3D) metric models of physically expressed cultural heritage such as monuments, historical places, artifacts need to be produced. Commonly used 3D modeling approaches include photogrammetry, laser scanning and computer-aided design. 3D modeling methods are frequently used to create digital representations of cultural heritage sites, artifacts or other objects. Although each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, when used together, it is possible to obtain more benefits and produce quality models than the sum of the benefits obtained when only one method is used. The main aim of this thesis was to develop an approach for the combined use of point clouds obtained using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors and point clouds produced using images obtained from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and smartphone cameras for cultural heritage modeling. Following this process, namely data fusion, the Level of Detail 4 (LoD4) model of the structure was produced for delivering to the user. Ilyakut Mosque located in Ilyakut Village of Sincan District of Ankara Province was chosen as the study area. This historical mosque is one of the oldest buildings in Ankara. Considering the architectural features of this mosque, which does not have an inscription, it is estimated that it was built in the late 14th century and early 15th century. To ensure the preservation of our cultural heritage, it was necessary to create a detailed metric 3D model of the mosque for future generations. Thus, the thesis focused on generating a comprehensive 3D model of the mosque at the LoD4 level.
