Residents’attitudes to the bringing cultural heritage assets to tourism: The case of Savur-Dereiçi

Cultural heritage assets serve as a bridge between the past and the future. Many cultural sites have been designated as protected to carry out this mission. As interest in cultural tourism grows, so does the bringing of protected areas to tourism and the concept of sustainable tourism. Cultural heritage sites that are available to tourism might give economic, socio-cultural, and environmental benefits of drawbacks. It is well understood that the degree of benefit and harm varies depending to the local beliefs and practices. As a result, it is impossible to incorporate cultural heritage aspects into tourism in a region and assure their long-term viability without considering local opinion. In accordance with this purpose, the economic, socio-cultural and environmental aspects were used to assess local people’s attitudes toward tourism in the development of Dereiçi village of Savur district in the province of Mardin, which is a significant protected area. The quantitative research method and the questionnaire methodology were used in this study. The questionnaire was applied to 400 people aged 18 and over who were selected at random from the local community and subjected to Independent Sample T-Test and One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis in SPSS data analysis application. There was no significant difference detected in any part or feature of the study.
